ATLANTA, Ga. (May 4, 2012) – The first day of qualifying at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway has the Gray Motorsports team and driver Shane Gray feeling pleasantly optimistic after putting together a pair of improved runs in the NTB/Service Central Pontiac GXP on a very hot and sticky day. In the first session, Gray jumped into the No. 7 position with a 6.655 at 207.18 mph, and although he did not better the time in the second qualifier – the NTB Service Central car recorded a 6.662, 207.27 – Gray is pleased to be on the board. The second-generation driver is in the No. 11 position heading into day two of the event. “This is definitely an improvement over what we had last weekend in Houston,” said Gray. “We’re pleased with what we’ve seen here so far. The first run was good, and the second run was just a little lazy. We’ll pick her up and be right back at it tomorrow.” Day two of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals is scheduled to begin at 11:30 am on Saturday with another qualifying session at 2:00 pm.
